No pain, no gain, By Jeffrey Borak, Berkshire Eagle StaffThe brownstone attic that was shared during the Depression by the Franz brothers, Victor and Walter, and their ailing father, is an attic of memory, pain and guilt THE PRICE is a haunting, elegantly written, sad play about the often painful choices we make in life and the price we pay for those choices...
... What has been left untouched is the unfinished business between Victor, a New York patrolman at retirement age, and his brother, Walter (David Birney), who has become a hugely successful physician, although not without some personal cost.
Walter's not-unexpected appearance at the attic sets the stage for a long overdue discussion between one brother who left the suffocating atmosphere of a home dominated by a selfish old man and another brother who sacrificed a promising education to stay home and look after the man.
"... a deeply resonant performance by David Birney whose larger-than-life impulses fills the void that surrounds him.
...Birney sails along in a masterly performance that is subtle, rich, fully nuanced, lucid and deeply affecting."
- The Berkshire Eagle, October 8, 2005"... poetic, sad, funny, troubling and beautiful..."
... played brilliantly and subtly by David Birney."
