Welcome
to the website. The site contains biographical information as well as a listing
of what, I guess, you would call a body of work. Film, television and the
theatre. The film and television have provided, each its own unique pleasures,
challenges, and adventures. Everything from 20 hour days in the studio to
learning to ride horseback on the Carmarque in southern France.
The work, all of it over time, has been a great
joy, particularly the opportunity to work in the great classic works of the
theatre. Each great play in its own way a mystery, a challenge, a gift.
About that I will simply say, without, I hope, sounding too pretentious, that if you've worked on a great play-Shakespeare or Chekov or Shaw, or Eugene O'Neil, or Arthur Miller-- the work itself is its own reward, and is a treasure. And if you've worked long enough and hard enough, and you are exceptionally lucky, there are some nights that are simply, well, magical, and the play, itself, a kind of dream… the play, plays you, becoming somehow all light and mystery. A wonder…a grace, a gift.
There are other gifts here. My children-Mollie, Peter and Kate, who to my mind and heart, are grace and gift beyond measure. To me works of another kind that if measured against the value of my work in the theatre or TV or film, I value 10, 000 times more. I will love them, as the poet says, 'Til all the seas gang dry. I have been very fortuanate.
